Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Baroque Sanctuary on the Vistula
Rising on the bank of the Vistula River in Kraków's historic core, Skałka Basilica takes its name — 'the Rock' — from the limestone outcrop it stands upon. Its richly gilded Baroque high altar, flanked by sculpted angels beneath a monumental altarpiece, forms the centerpiece captured by this camera.
The Martyrdom of Poland's Patron Saint
The church marks the traditional site where St. Stanisław, Bishop of Kraków, was killed in 1079 by order of King Bolesław II — an event that made him Poland's principal patron saint. The basilica's dedication to both St. Michael the Archangel and St. Stanisław reflects this founding legend.
Guardians of the Pauline Order
Since the 14th century the sanctuary has been entrusted to the Pauline Fathers, the Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit, whose adjoining monastery continues an unbroken tradition of prayer and pilgrimage at this address.
The National Pantheon
Beneath the nave lies the crypt of the Meritorious, a National Pantheon holding the tombs of some of Poland's most distinguished artists and writers, cementing Skałka's place among the country's most treasured cultural landmarks.
