The Heart of Samsun

Saathane Square (Saathane Meydanı) is a central public plaza in the İlkadım district, named after the area's traditional clock tower tradition. The square is a focal point for residents and visitors strolling through the city centre.

Architecture & Setting

A commanding historic stone building with arched windows anchors one side of the plaza, contrasting with the colourful townhouses and shops that line the opposite edge. Decorative paving patterns spread across the pedestrian expanse.

Fountains & Greenery

Two circular fountains bubble at the centre of the square, ringed by trimmed hedges and seasonal flower beds. Benches invite people to pause amid the landscaped islands of greenery.

Daily Life

The view captures the everyday rhythm of the square — shoppers, families and passers-by moving across the plaza, with taxis and traffic skirting its tree-lined edges.
