Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Medieval Stone Hamlet
Roccacaramanico is a captivating cluster of stone houses tiered up the mountainside in a tower-like configuration. Once known as the ghost village after standing fully abandoned, it has been painstakingly revived and now lives again, especially at weekends. The camera sits in the heart of the hamlet on Piazza Callarone.
The Maiella Backdrop
The square opens toward the Valle dell'Orta, hemmed by two great massifs: the Morrone (2,061 m) and the Maiella, whose principal summit is Monte Amaro (2,793 m). The whole scene lies within the protected Maiella National Park, a stronghold of Apennine wilderness.
Land of Record Snowfall
Trapped between mountains in a closed valley, Roccacaramanico is famed for its snow: it averages roughly three metres a year and holds the Italian record for a single season — ten metres in 1929 — plus an unofficial world mark of 360 cm in 24 hours.
A Rotating Village View
Every few minutes the camera shifts its vantage: the full square with the hosting restaurant, the main lane through the village, the Atlas cedar and the sweeping Maiella with Monte Amaro in the foreground.
