The Red Hills

The Red Hills form a dramatic wall of iron-rich sandstone along the northern edge of St. George. Carved from ancient Navajo and Kayenta rock layers, these bluffs glow in deep shades of crimson and ochre that give southern Utah its nickname, Color Country.

Edge of the Mojave Desert

St. George sits where three great regions meet — the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau, and the Great Basin. This convergence produces a stark, sculpted terrain of mesas, lava ridges, and desert washes, framed in the distance by the forested Pine Valley Mountains.
