A Rooftop Peregrine Territory
Installed by SEO/BirdLife on the roof of one of the highest buildings in Zamora, this artificial nest box has become the breeding site of a resident pair of peregrine falcons. The vantage point overlooks parks, open ground and the farmland stretching along both banks of the Duero river.
The Fastest Bird in the World
The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) is the most renowned of the falcons, present on every continent except Antarctica. Females are markedly larger than males, and the species is a specialised bird-hunter, striking pigeons and other medium-sized birds in spectacular high-speed stoops.
Breeding & Conservation
The clutch of three to five eggs is laid in early spring and incubated by both sexes for around a month. Chicks fledge at roughly six weeks and remain dependent on their parents for two further months. Listed as Near Threatened, the species enjoys special legal protection.
A Conservation Partnership
This live broadcast is part of SEO/BirdLife's camera network, run in collaboration with the Junta de Castilla y Leรณn and local partners, giving the public a rare, respectful window into the private life of an urban raptor.
