Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Legendary Southern Shore
Parangtritis is one of Java's most iconic beaches, framed by black volcanic sand swept down from Mount Merapi and the Opak River. Local Javanese tradition holds the waters sacred to Nyai Roro Kidul, the legendary Queen of the Southern Sea, and visitors are cautioned never to wear green near the surf.
Dunes, Horse Carts and Wide Sands
Just behind the beach rise the Parangkusumo sand dunes, a rare desert-like landscape popular for sandboarding and jeep tours. Along the shore, colorful horse-drawn carts called andong and ATVs carry visitors across the broad, flat sands stretching toward the cliffs of Parangendog.
Powerful Indian Ocean Surf
Parangtritis faces the open Indian Ocean, producing strong currents and dramatic waves that make it more a place for strolling and photography than swimming. The dark cliffs framing the bay add striking contrast to the pale foam of the surf.
