The Nest Box

This camera looks directly into a wooden nesting box built for owls and jackdaws, fixed to a tree near one of the local stork nests. The rough-sawn timber walls and the natural nesting material fill the frame, giving an up-close perspective rarely afforded by the wider landscape cameras nearby.

Wildlife Watching

Installed by the NABU regional association, the box is part of an ongoing project to encourage cavity-nesting birds to settle in the area. Owls have been spotted locally before, so patient viewers may witness a first occupation or curious visitors inspecting the shelter.

The Fohrde Setting

Fohrde is a small district of the town of Havelsee in Brandenburg, a region of lakes, rivers and open farmland in eastern Germany. The surrounding Havelland countryside is prized habitat for storks, raptors and other wildlife.
