About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
An active osprey nest in the salt marsh
The camera frames a man-made nesting platform standing roughly 75 yards offshore from The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Built because natural nesting trees are scarce along the developed Jersey Shore, the platform anchors a pair of ospreys that return faithfully to the same site.
What the fish hawks do
Often called fish hawks, ospreys dive feet-first into the surrounding tidal waters and ferry their catch back to the nest. Viewers watch nest-building, fish deliveries, incubation and chick-rearing through the breeding cycle, a live nature documentary unfolding above the marsh.
The coastal wetland backdrop
Beyond the nest spreads a wide mosaic of mudflats, channels and grasses that draw fish and birds alike. The view captures the tidal rhythm of one of the Jersey Shore's richest salt-marsh ecosystems.
Conservation in real time
The feed supports The Wetlands Institute's mission to teach about coastal ecosystems and conservation, using a charismatic species to spotlight the health of marsh habitats along the New Jersey coast.
