This camera looks directly into a purpose-built nesting box within Napier Port's on-site kororā sanctuary. Woven grass, dried flax, and soft nesting material fill the burrow, giving a close, unobstructed view of the space these seabirds call home. The monochrome, low-light lens is designed to observe the birds without disturbing their natural behavior.

Aotearoa's Smallest Penguin

Kororā, also known as the little penguin, is the smallest penguin species on Earth and a native of New Zealand's coastline. These birds are famously shy and burrow-dwelling, spending much of their time hidden from view, which makes a dedicated nest camera one of the few ways to witness their private routines up close.

Napier Port has built a network of nesting boxes across its grounds to support a resident kororā colony living alongside its industrial operations.
