The camera sits high above St. Francis Street in the Central Business District, framing the compact cluster of towers that forms Alabama's most recognisable skyline. The spire of the RSA Battle House Tower — the tallest building in the state — rises in the foreground, with the low brick grid of the historic district spreading out behind it toward the water.

The Working Waters of the Mobile River

Beyond the rooftops the Mobile River opens into the head of Mobile Bay, one of the busiest commercial waterways on the Gulf Coast. The Port of Mobile fills the far shore with container gantries, bulk terminals and shipyard dry docks, while deep-draught vessels, tugboats and barge trains work through the channel on a continuous rotation.

Battleship Memorial Park and the I-10 Crossing

Mid-frame, the grey bulk of the USS Alabama lies permanently moored at Battleship Memorial Park, alongside the submarine USS Drum and the park's aircraft pavilion. Traffic streams across the Interstate 10 Bayway and disappears into the George Wallace Tunnel beneath the river, giving the view an unusually complete picture of how the city moves.
