Peaks & Forest

Above the ice rise the jagged summits of Mount Bullard and the forested ridges of Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the United States. The slopes drop steeply toward the lakeshore, lined with dense stands of spruce and hemlock.

Wild Mountain Goats

The rocky hillsides are home to year-round mountain goats, agile climbers that graze on lichen and vegetation along the cliffs. Nannies with kids feed on the lower ledges while solitary billies command the higher, more precipitous ground.

Nugget Falls

Tumbling beside the glacier, Nugget Falls plunges from a hanging valley into the lake, a thunderous ribbon of meltwater that draws visitors gathering at its base to take in the panoramic scene.
