The Lake and Its Mirror Waters

Stretching across a tectonic basin in the southeastern corner of Umbria, Lago di Piediluco is one of central Italy's most celebrated lakes. The Village of Piediluco

Clustered along the shoreline sits the picturesque hamlet of Piediluco, a frazione of the city of Terni. Its narrow lanes climb toward the ruins of a medieval fortress, and the slender bell tower of the Church of San Francesco punctuates the rooftops. The settlement's name derives from the Latin pedis lucus, the foot of the sacred grove.

Beyond the water rise the forested ridges of the central Apennines, dotted with chestnut and oak woods. The lake lies a short distance from the thundering Cascata delle Marmore, one of the tallest man-made waterfalls in Europe, making this corner of Terni a hub for nature lovers exploring the green heart of Italy.
