The Piazza del Comune

Montefalco's main square is unusual for its near-circular plan, a converging hub where the town's narrow streets radiate outward like spokes. At its heart stands the Palazzo Comunale, its Renaissance loggia and slender bell tower presiding over the gathering space below.

A Hill Town of Umbria

Perched above the surrounding plain, Montefalco earns its nickname as the Ringhiera dell'Umbria — the 'balcony of Umbria' — for the sweeping views over vineyards and olive groves. The honey-coloured stone facades that ring the piazza speak to centuries of medieval and Renaissance heritage.

Daily Life on the Square

Cafe tables, parked cars and pedestrians crossing the cobblestones animate the scene, while the surrounding palazzi shelter shops, restaurants and the entrances to historic churches. The square remains the civic and social centre of town life.
