Perched at Lookout Point Park, this elevated, remote-controlled PTZ camera commands a sweeping view of the BNSF Southern Transcon mainline as it curves through La Plata, Missouri. The vantage lets the operator pan and zoom across the entire scene, from the double-tracked corridor to the surrounding trackside terrain.
Traffic on the Marceline Subdivision
La Plata sits at milepost 312.7 on the Marceline Subdivision, one of the busiest rail arteries in the country. Some 50 to 70 trains pass daily, including BNSF manifest, intermodal, and local freight alongside Amtrak's transcontinental service.
The Historic Amtrak Station Below
From its raised position, the camera also takes in the restored Amtrak station, hosted by the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation. The station is a scheduled stop for the Southwest Chief on its long run between Chicago and Los Angeles.
