An Engineering Marvel Over the Sea

The Kurushima-Kaikyō Bridge is the crowning span of the Shimanami Kaidō, a series of three connected suspension bridges that together form the world's first triple suspension structure. Reaching roughly four kilometres across the Kurushima Strait, it carries both a highway and a dedicated cycling path that draws riders from around the globe.

The Seto Inland Sea Setting

Below the bridge, the Seto Inland Sea weaves between countless small islands, its swirling tidal currents among the swiftest in Japan. Ships thread the channel beneath the towers, and the scattered islets create a constantly shifting maritime tableau.

Gateway from Imabari

Anchored on the mainland at Imabari in Ehime, the bridge is the southern gateway of the island-hopping route linking Shikoku to Honshu. The vantage captures the sweeping approach roadway and the elegant cable geometry that defines this iconic crossing.
