A Classic Stretch of the Shonan Coast

This camera overlooks Koshigoe Beach, a beloved arc of the Shonan coastline in the city of Kamakura. The wide crescent of dark volcanic sand meets the waters of Sagami Bay, a stretch famed throughout Japan for its laid-back seaside character and easy access from Tokyo.

Harbor, Breakwaters and Working Sea

To one side the Koshigoe fishing harbor extends into the bay behind a series of stone and concrete breakwaters. Local fishing boats shelter here, and the layered piers give the scene a quietly industrious maritime rhythm alongside the open beach.

Kamakura and the Enoshima Hinterland

Beyond the shore the hillside neighborhoods of Kamakura climb toward wooded ridges, part of the historic district that stretches west toward the island of Enoshima. It is a landscape woven from temples, surf culture and coastal railways.

Facing south across Sagami Bay, the view opens onto a broad horizon where the ocean meets the sky. Surfers, walkers and fishing crews share this timeless shoreline, offering a continuous look at one of the Kanto region's most iconic beaches.
