A Temple Born of Relocation

Jin'an Temple traces its origins to the fishing community of Beifang'ao, whose residents were relocated to Nanfang'ao in 1975 when the navy established a military port on their original land. Determined to keep their devotion to Mazu alive, local residents raised funds in the 1980s to build a new temple in their adopted harbor town.

The Sacred Altar

The main hall houses an elaborately carved gilded altar flanked by towering red columns and dragon-wrapped pillars. Rows of enthroned Mazu statues, including rare figures carved from coral, sit beneath ornate canopies, surrounded by ceremonial lanterns and offering tables.

A Living Center of Worship

Beyond its architecture, Jin'an Temple remains an active place of pilgrimage for fishing families who look to Mazu, the goddess of the sea, for protection. In 1989 the temple made history as one of the first to organize a direct cross-strait religious exchange, underscoring its significance within the wider Mazu worship tradition.
