A Geothermal Treasure in Wyoming

Hot Springs State Park surrounds the Big Spring, one of the world's largest mineral hot springs, whose flowing waters built the famous travertine terraces. This camera looks across the park's lower reach, capturing the broad lawns, the Boat Ramp on the Bighorn River, and the layered badland bluffs that wall the valley.

The Terraced Landscape

The mineral-rich runoff has sculpted stepped travertine deposits in shades of orange, white, and rust. Beyond the park road, the eroded sedimentary cliffs reveal millions of years of geology in vivid horizontal bands, a hallmark of the central Wyoming high country.

A Living Public Park

Free to enter, the park draws visitors to its thermal pools, walking paths, and picnic grounds. The boat ramp launches paddlers and anglers onto the Bighorn River, while a resident bison herd roams the surrounding grasslands.

Thermopolis and the Bighorn Basin

Set at the edge of Thermopolis, the park anchors a town named for its healing waters. The Bighorn Basin stretches outward toward distant ranges, making this a gateway to some of Wyoming's most dramatic open country.
