A Commanding North Sea Outlook
Perched on the gallery of the Hörnum lighthouse atop a 16-metre dune, this camera commands the entire southern point of Sylt. The view runs from the wild Hörnum-Odde sandspit across the harbor and the Oststrand to the Kersig settlement, a sweep that captures the island's maritime character in a single frame.
The Village of Hörnum
Below the dune spreads Hörnum, a lively North Sea resort of gabled houses and dune gardens. Its harbor is the launch point for trips to the Halligen and neighbouring islands, lined with fish stalls and the weathered jetties that define life on the coast.
A Historic Seamark
Built in 1907 and standing 33.5 metres tall, the lighthouse is the southernmost seamark of Sylt and the only one on the island open to visitors. From its platform the camera frames a working coastline where tidal flats meet the deeper shipping lanes of the open sea.
Tides, Ferries and Far Horizons
The Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage tidal landscape, stretches toward the mainland, its channels alive with ferries, cutters and excursion ships. When visibility is generous, the silhouettes of Amrum and Föhr rise along the distant horizon.
