Operated by Falkenberg Energi, the weir at Hertingforsen anchors a hydroelectric plant on the lower Ätran River in the Herting district. Frothy cascades spill continuously over the concrete sill beneath a steel inspection walkway, framed by thick riverbank woodland on both banks.

Salmon Return After Decades

A landmark restoration project reopened a natural fish passage around the dam, letting migrating Atlantic salmon and sea trout reach spawning grounds upstream for the first time in seven decades. The reborn run has made Hertingforsen a celebrated stop for anglers and a symbol of river conservation on one of Sweden's storied salmon rivers.

Where Power Meets Conservation

The site pairs continuous renewable electricity generation with an engineered channel built specifically for fish migration — a rare combination that turned an industrial dam into a popular riverside attraction for visitors following the Ätran's course through Falkenberg.
