Great South Bay Marina & Boats
OnlineLook out over Great South Bay, the broad coastal lagoon that runs along the south shore of Long Island. The camera frames a busy marina where sailboats, motor yachts and fishing boats ride at their slips beside weathered wooden docks, an American flag snapping above the moorings. Beyond the breakwater, the calm, open water stretches toward the low barrier shoreline of Fire Island.

The Great South Bay waterfront
Great South Bay is the largest of the shallow lagoons that line the south shore of Long Island, sheltered from the Atlantic by the long barrier island of Fire Island. The camera overlooks a working marina on the mainland edge of the bay, a hub for boating life along this stretch of the New York coast.
A boater's harbor
Rows of finger docks hold a mix of sailboats, cabin cruisers and center-console fishing boats, while a small breakwater and wooden pilings mark the channel out to open water. The bay's protected waters make it a favorite for day-sailing, paddling and angling.
Wildlife and open water
The bay is an important estuary, home to shellfish beds, ospreys and migrating waterfowl. Looking south across the moored fleet, the view opens onto the low dunes of Fire Island on the far horizon.
