Osprey Nest at Oyster Bay Harbor

A Family of Ospreys

This nest cradles a brood of young ospreys, watched over by their parents as they grow toward their first flight. Distinctive dark eye-stripes and sharp, curved talons mark these fish-hunting raptors, one of the most widespread birds of prey found along the Atlantic coast.

Life Above the Harbor

The nest sits on a dedicated platform overlooking Oyster Bay Harbor, where sailboats and moorings dot the water below. This elevated vantage point keeps the birds safe from ground predators while placing them within easy reach of the fish that sustain the family.

A Nest Built to Last

Layer upon layer of driftwood, branches, and reeds form the bulky structure, added to and repaired season after season by returning breeding pairs. The result is a remarkably sturdy and enduring home, often reused and expanded for years.

The camera is maintained by PSEG Long Island as part of its wildlife stewardship efforts, offering an intimate, uninterrupted window into the daily rhythms of one of Long Island's most cherished raptor families.
