The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is one of Latvia's scarcest breeding birds, with only a handful of pairs clinging to the country's vast peat bogs. This camera grants a privileged window onto their secluded domestic life.

An Engineered Eyrie

The pair occupies an artificial nest built on a wooded island to bolster the species' fragile foothold. Sturdy and well hidden, the platform has carried successive generations of eaglets toward their first flights.
