A Carpathian Eyrie

High in a conifer canopy above the forested hills of Bucovina, this enormous stick nest has hosted golden eagles for generations. Wild Bucovina Association volunteers installed the camera to document the pair's cycle of courtship, egg-laying, and chick-rearing without disturbing the birds.

Golden Eagles at Home

The resident female and male share incubation and hunting duties, delivering prey to the nest and reinforcing it with fresh branches. Aquila chrysaetos is among Europe's largest raptors, and this vantage point reveals behaviors rarely seen outside dedicated fieldwork.

The surrounding Bucovina woodlands form part of the wider Carpathian range, a stronghold for birds of prey thanks to their remoteness and dense forest cover. The association's monitoring work supports broader efforts to safeguard the region's raptor population.
