A Rare Three-Way Hebridean View

This wide-angle camera captures the forest, beach and sea outlook that gives Uist Forest Retreat its name. In the foreground, ranks of spruce and pine rise from planted woodland — a genuine rarity on the largely treeless Isle of North Uist. Beyond them the land opens onto shallow tidal flats and the wide waters of an Atlantic sea loch.

Woodland on a Treeless Island

Sheltered plantations like this one are precious habitat in the Outer Hebrides, drawing white-tailed eagles, buzzards and songbirds to a landscape otherwise shaped by machair, moor and open water. The mix of forest edge and coastline makes the retreat a quiet stronghold for island wildlife.

The Far Shore and Hills

Across the loch, low heather-clad hills and scattered white crofts mark the distant shoreline, with a small chapel and headland breaking the horizon. The interplay of woodland, water and moorland gives the panorama its constantly shifting depth and character.

The stream offers a window onto one of the most remote corners of Scotland, letting viewers share the same wild, expansive outlook the retreat's guests enjoy from their forest balconies far out in the North Atlantic.
