FalconCam Nest Box Camera
OnlineA close-up live view inside the peregrine falcon nest box mounted on a water tower at Charles Sturt University. Everything you need to know about this live stream
Inside the Nest Box
This camera looks directly into the wooden nest box where a family of peregrine falcons has bred since 2008. The gravel scrape fills the frame, with an opening to one side that reveals the rolling green countryside beyond the tower.
The Resident Falcons
The breeding pair, the female Diamond and the younger male Gimbir, can be seen perched on the ledge or tending the scrape. Peregrines are the fastest animals on Earth, and this box offers a rare stationary perspective on their domestic life.
A Research Landmark
Run by Charles Sturt University in Orange, the FalconCam Project is a long-term scientific study of breeding behaviour. The water tower it sits atop has hosted nesting falcons for well over a decade, making this an internationally followed wildlife stream.
What You Will See
Expect courtship gifts, scrape-building, egg-laying and the growth of downy chicks through the breeding cycle. Outside the main season the adults still visit the box, so there is always the chance of an unhurried encounter with these magnificent birds.
