FalconCam Ledge Nest Cam
OnlineA close-up view of a peregrine falcon nesting ledge high on the water tower at Charles Sturt University. Through the ledge opening, rolling rural paddocks and scattered eucalypt woodland stretch toward the horizon, while the gravelled scrape itself fills the foreground. Run by Dr Cilla Kinross, this long-standing research camera offers an intimate window onto one of the world's fastest birds.
About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
The Peregrine Falcon Ledge
This camera looks directly onto the gravel-lined nesting scrape where peregrine falcons raise their young each breeding cycle. The arched ledge frames the birds against the open sky, capturing courtship, incubation and the growth of downy chicks into fledglings in remarkable detail.
A Tower Above the Campus
The nest sits atop the water tower of the Orange campus of Charles Sturt University. Beyond the ledge, green pastures, hedgerows and patches of native eucalypt reveal the gentle agricultural landscape of the Central Tablelands.
A Long-Running Research Project
The FalconCam Project, led by Dr Cilla Kinross, has monitored this urban peregrine pair for many years, contributing valuable data on breeding behaviour and survival in a human-modified setting.
Why Watch This Cam
Few cameras place you so close to a wild raptor. It is a compelling feed for birdwatchers, students and anyone drawn to the drama of wildlife unfolding metres from the lens.
