A Classic Heritage Tramway
The Seaton Tramway is a 2 ft 9 in narrow-gauge electric line running three miles through East Devon's Axe Valley. Established in 1970 by Claude Lane, it carries visitors in scaled-down tramcars based on classic British designs, linking Seaton, Colyford, and Colyton along part of the former Seaton Branch Line.
Colyford Station, Looking South
This camera sits at Colyford Station, framing the single-track line and its passing loop as tramcars approach and depart. The green livery of the tramway's poles and shelters stands out against the surrounding hedgerows and trees of the valley.
The Axe Valley Setting
Threading between the coastal resort of Seaton and the ancient market town of Colyton, the route runs alongside the Axe estuary, a landscape rich in wading birds and open meadow. The village of Colyford gives its name to this quiet halt on the line.
A Beloved Visitor Attraction
With fourteen tramcars and around 90,000 visitors a year, the Seaton Tramway is one of Devon's most cherished heritage railways. Many of its cars were built from scratch, while three were rebuilt from full-size trams that once ran in London, Bournemouth, and Exeter.
