A Tower Above the Bog
This camera rides atop a 100-foot fire tower inside Big Bog State Recreation Area, a remote outpost in the far north of Minnesota near the Canadian border. The elevated vantage sweeps across a landscape few visitors ever see from above: an unbroken expanse of black spruce, tamarack, and open peatland stretching toward the horizon.
Upper Red Lake
To the east, the camera looks out over Upper Red Lake, part of one of the largest freshwater lakes lying entirely within Minnesota. The lake's broad, shallow basin has long supported a renowned walleye fishery and draws anglers from across the region.
One of America's Largest Peatlands
Big Bog protects roughly 500 square miles of raised peat bog, one of the largest of its kind in the contiguous United States. A milelong boardwalk trail lets visitors cross the fragile bog at ground level, while the fire tower offers the only aerial perspective on this rare northern ecosystem.
A Minnesota DNR Outpost
The feed is maintained by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, which manages the recreation area's trails, campground, and interpretive programs. The tower itself remains open to the public during visitor center hours, offering a rare climb above the bog canopy.
