This infrared camera faces outward from a barn owl nest box mounted on a concrete tower in Emilia-Romagna, part of Italy's M.C.B.I. (Monitoraggio e Conservazione del Barbagianni Italia) research network. Unlike its companion camera inside the same box, this exterior view frames the entrance hole and the attached landing perch where the resident pair comes and goes.

The M.C.B.I. Conservation Project

Founded by a coalition of naturalists and researchers, M.C.B.I. installs nest boxes for the barn owl (Tyto alba) at sites across Italy, gathering ethological data to support the species' conservation nationwide without disturbing the birds.
