A Treetop Nest in the Pine Canopy
This camera looks out over a bald eagle nest built more than 100 feet above the forest floor, woven into the crown of a mature Loblolly Pine. Known as the E-3 nest, it is home to the resident pair, Alex II and Andria, who maintain and defend this commanding vantage high in the treetops.
Kincaid Lake and Kisatchie National Forest
The nest stands near the shore of Kincaid Lake, in the Evangeline Unit of the Calcasieu Ranger District within Kisatchie National Forest. This is the only national forest in central Louisiana, a vast mosaic of pine woodland, bottomland and quiet water that offers ideal habitat for nesting raptors.
Bald Eagles of Central Louisiana
The U.S. Forest Service installed this solar-powered camera to follow the lives of these bald eagles at close range. Generations of birds have raised young here, and the feed offers a rare, intimate window into incubation, hatching and fledging as the pair tend their eggs and growing chicks.
What You'll See
Expect sweeping pine branches, the eagles' broad wings and the shimmer of Kincaid Lake beyond the canopy. Watch the adults arrive with fish and nesting material, rearrange sticks, and stand sentinel over their treetop domain in one of Louisiana's wildest forests.
