A handcrafted refuge for wildlife

This nature corner has been shaped over several years from natural materials — weathered tree stumps, branches and stone arranged around a small pond. Every element is chosen to make the garden a genuine sanctuary for the creatures that call it home.

A pond for the birds

The little pond sits at the heart of the scene, built for the welfare of wild birds that come to drink and bathe. Song thrushes, starlings, blackcaps and sparrowhawks have all been recorded among the regular feathered guests.

Home of hedgehogs and a visiting fox

Several hand-made hedgehog houses shelter a resident family of Northern white-breasted hedgehogs, while a red fox drops by, especially in the colder months. A pine marten and a tawny owl have also been spotted nearby.

Watching the changing seasons

Set in an urban garden in Liepāja, the view follows the full cycle of the year as the resident animals feed, breed and prepare their winter nests — an intimate window onto everyday Latvian wildlife.
