Location and Geography

Gauteng is situated on the South African interior plateau, being the country's smallest province but the most densely populated. This strategic region occupies a central position in South Africa, connecting the main commercial routes between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.

The province houses two of the continent's most important cities: Johannesburg, Africa's financial center, and Pretoria, South Africa's administrative capital. These modern metropolises form part of the Witwatersrand urban complex, a conurbation that represents the country's economic heart.
