Cameras on the Everest Trail

Most of Nepal's webcams sit in the Solukhumbu district, on the trekking route to Everest Base Camp. It starts at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, a short, steep runway at about 2,850 metres, and climbs through Namche Bazaar and Pheriche to Lobuche, at 5,050 metres. From the Hotel Everest View, near 3,900 metres, cameras frame Everest, Ama Dablam and Kongde Ri when the clouds allow.

The Annapurna Side

West of Kathmandu, the village of Ghandruk looks across terraced fields at Machapuchare, the sacred peak that has never been officially climbed, and a camera at Annapurna Base Camp, at about 4,130 metres, watches the ring of summits known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. In the capital, another looks over the river and rooftops of Kathmandu.

Monsoon and Clear Seasons

The views follow the monsoon: from June to September clouds hide the mountains for days, while October, November and spring bring the clearest air of the year, and with it the trekking seasons.
