Mountains and Harbours
Jamaica's interior is a mass of green hills and limestone plateaus, topped by Blue Mountain Peak at 2,256 metres, where the famous Blue Mountain coffee grows on misty slopes. The capital, Kingston, spreads around one of the largest natural harbours in the world, protected by the long sandspit of the Palisadoes.
Half Way Tree
One camera looks over Half Way Tree, the busy crossroads at the heart of Kingston, in the parish of St. Andrew. The district took its name from a cotton tree where travellers once rested, and its clock tower, built in 1913 in memory of King Edward VII, stands in the middle of the traffic, buses and street vendors.
Spanish Town
About 20 kilometres west, Spanish Town was the island's capital until 1872. Its camera shows daily life around the old square, framed by Georgian buildings and the ruins of the King's House, once the governor's residence. The hottest, wettest months run from May to November, the hurricane season.
