Great Lakes and Waterways

Ontario is shaped by water, bordered by four of the five Great Lakes and laced with tens of thousands of inland lakes and rivers. The St. Lawrence and Niagara river systems link its interior to the Atlantic, while the shorelines of Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and Lake Huron frame much of the populated south.

Cities and Economy

From the cosmopolitan skyline of Toronto to the government district of Ottawa and the industrial hubs of the southwest, Ontario drives a large share of Canada's finance, manufacturing, and technology. Its urban corridors contrast with vast stretches of forest, farmland, and lakeside towns.

Northern Wilderness

Beyond the densely settled south lies a vast expanse of boreal forest, granite shield country, and subarctic lowlands reaching toward Hudson Bay. This northern Ontario is a land of mining towns, canoe routes, and seemingly endless wilderness valued for its rugged natural character.
