A Sheltered Dalmatian Inlet

Vrboska sits at the head of a narrow, fjord-like inlet on the northern shore of Hvar Island, one of the few Adriatic settlements built directly along a natural canal. The protected waters have sheltered fishing boats and small craft here for centuries, giving the village its enduring identity as a maritime community.

The “Little Venice” of Hvar

Stone footbridges arch over the canal connecting the two halves of the village, a layout that earned Vrboska its nickname as the “Little Venice” of the Adriatic. Weathered façades, shuttered windows, and terracotta roofs reflect off the calm water lining both banks.

A Working and Leisure Harbor

The waterfront hosts the ACI Marina Vrboska alongside working fishing vessels, making the inlet a blend of everyday island life and Adriatic sailing tourism. Rows of moored yachts and traditional wooden boats share the same sheltered berth.

Gateway to Hvar's North Coast

Surrounded by vineyards, pine woods, and lavender fields typical of Hvar's interior, Vrboska serves as a quiet gateway to the island's rural north, a contrast to the busier resorts of Hvar Town and Stari Grad nearby.
