The Blue Cross, Apparition Hill

A Site of Pilgrimage

The Blue Cross stands on the lower slope of Podbrdo, the rocky hill above the village of Bijakovići near Medjugorje. It is traditionally associated with the earliest reported Marian apparitions, and remains one of the most visited stops along the pilgrimage route up the hillside.

The Rugged Terrain

Limestone outcrops, wild shrubs, and scattered stones cover the slope, so pilgrims follow a marked stony path to reach the cross. The rugged, sunlit terrain gives the hill its distinctive character and has changed little since the site first drew visitors.

A Living Devotion

Groups of the faithful continue to climb the hill daily, pausing at waypoints marked with statues and crosses along the way. The camera offers a window onto this enduring devotion, letting remote viewers follow the rhythm of prayer and pilgrimage from anywhere in the world.
