A Reservoir Carved into the Central Mountains

The Techi Dam (Deji Reservoir) sits deep in the heart of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range, impounding the Dajia River as it carves through some of the island's most rugged terrain. From this elevated vantage the reservoir's turquoise arms reach into the folds of densely forested ridges, with the distant peaks of Nanhu Mountain — Taiwan's fifth-highest summit — crowning the horizon.

The Jiayang Alluvial Fan

At the centre of the frame lies the Jiayang alluvial fan, a gently terraced shelf of land where generations of highland farmers have cultivated fruit orchards, tea, and greenhouse crops. The geometric patchwork of fields and white polytunnels stands in striking contrast to the wild slopes that rise on every side.

Bridges, Cableways and Mountain Life

Look closely and you can trace the cargo cableways and suspension bridges that span the gorge, lifelines that connect the scattered settlements clinging to the valley walls. These engineering feats let the highland communities of the Lishan region move goods and people across terrain that roads alone could never reach.
