An Industrial Landmark
Sloss Furnaces operated as a pig-iron blast furnace from 1882 to 1971 and is now a National Historic Landmark โ the only preserved blast furnace of its kind in the United States, open to the public with towering stacks, casting sheds and vintage locomotives on display.
A Working Rail Corridor
This PTZ camera frames the active tracks that thread past the furnace grounds, where freight trains still rumble through the industrial district. Railfans can spot locomotives and long consists moving against a backdrop of preserved ironwork.
Birmingham, the Magic City
Founded on iron and steel, Birmingham earned its Magic City nickname for the speed of its industrial rise. The Sloss complex stands as the enduring symbol of that heritage, framed here beside a living railway.
