A Sanctuary of Rare and Endangered Birds
The fish ponds of Siemień rank among the most important bird refuges in Poland and across Central Europe. Over 240 species have been recorded here, more than 115 of them breeding, making this a living catalogue of the region's rare and endangered fauna.
The Realm of the White-Tailed Eagle
The adjoining Parczew Forests are a nesting stronghold for the white-tailed eagle, Europe's largest bird of prey. Drawn by the abundant waterfowl, these majestic raptors gather here in remarkable concentrations, joined by eagles ringed across northern and central Europe.
A Wetland Shaped by Centuries
First dug as early as the 17th century, the ponds now span roughly 790 hectares of large and small basins fringed by meadows, woodland and the broad Tyśmienica valley. The landscape forms part of the protected NATURA 2000 'Dolina Tyśmienicy' special bird protection area.
A Crossroads for Migrating Flocks
The reserve is a vital staging ground for migrating waterbirds, from dunlins and ruffs to terns, grebes and rare diving ducks. Islands and reed-fringed shallows shelter elusive specialists such as the little crake and bittern, drawing birdwatchers from across the country.
