A Commanding View from Aoba Castle

The camera is mounted at the Sendai Castle ruins, also known as Aoba Castle, the hilltop fortress that Date Masamune founded in 1601 atop Mount Aoba. From this elevated terrace the lens sweeps across the river valley toward the heart of the city.

The City of Trees

Spread across the plain below is Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture and the largest city in the Tōhoku region. Its compact downtown skyline of office towers and hotels rises among the abundant greenery that gives the city its enduring nickname, the City of Trees.

The Hirose River and Surrounding Hills

The wide channel of the Hirose River threads through the foreground, framed by forested ridges and open sports grounds. These wooded slopes wrap around the urban core and connect the castle site to the wider Ōu mountain landscape beyond.

A Living Panorama
