Sebec Lake Dark Sky Cam
OnlinePerched on the shore of Sebec Lake in one of Maine's designated dark-sky regions, this camera looks north across calm, unbroken waters toward a dense treeline of boreal forest. Free of nearby city glow, the site is prized for its exceptional star visibility and occasional aurora displays when solar activity is high.
About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
A Dark-Sky Sanctuary in Rural Maine
Sebec Lake sits amid the rolling, sparsely populated hills of Piscataquis County, one of the least light-polluted corners of the northeastern United States. The near-total absence of artificial light makes the surrounding sky an astronomer's canvas, with the Milky Way often visible to the naked eye on clear nights.
Aurora and Meteor Watching
Pointed north across the lake, the camera is positioned to catch aurora borealis displays that occasionally reach this latitude during periods of elevated geomagnetic activity, as well as seasonal meteor showers streaking over the water.
A Working Maine Lake
By day, the same view reveals the quiet, forested shoreline typical of Maine's interior lake country โ a mix of evergreen and hardwood stands framing the open water, with loons and other lake wildlife regularly passing through frame.
