A School-Sponsored Osprey Nest

The Santiam Canyon School District hosts this public osprey nest camera on its Mill City campus, giving students and viewers everywhere a direct window into the life of a wild raptor family. The nest sits atop a tall pole beside the district's running track, in full view of the parking lot and surrounding rooftops.

Life on the Platform

Ospreys build enormous stick nests that they reuse and enlarge season after season, and this platform is no exception. Expect to see adults rearranging branches, exchanging fish deliveries, and shielding eggs or chicks as the family grows.

A Fish-Eating Raptor

Unlike eagles and hawks that hunt varied prey, the osprey specializes almost exclusively in fish, diving feet-first into nearby waterways of the Santiam River watershed before hauling its catch back to the nest.

Community & Conservation

The camera doubles as an educational tool for the school district, connecting classrooms and the wider community to raptor conservation and the rhythms of a species that has rebounded strongly across the Pacific Northwest.
