The Station
The Santa Fé do Sul railway station sits at the western end of the Estrada de Ferro Araraquara trunk line, the point where the 421-kilometre route reaches the far northwest of São Paulo State. The long platform, sheltered by its distinctive blue-painted canopies, runs alongside sidings where rolling stock is marshalled.
The Freight Operation
Today the line is worked by RUMO Logística, which hauls grain, sugar and bulk cargo across the interior. The camera looks down on rakes of covered hopper wagons and the maintenance vehicles that keep the yard running, giving railfans a close, elevated view of shunting moves and through freight.
Railway Heritage
Begun in 1896 at Araraquara, the line was extended for decades before reaching its present terminus here. Santa Fé do Sul became the trunk line's end of track after the original final section was flooded by the Ilha Solteira hydroelectric reservoir, and in 1998 the network was linked westward across the SP-MS road-rail bridge over the Paraná River.
The Setting
Santa Fé do Sul is a town in the far northwest of São Paulo State, near the borders with Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul. The view captures a quiet inland working railway surrounded by the green, gently rolling landscape typical of the region.
