A World-Class Railfan Junction
Hosted by the Rochelle Railroad Park, this camera watches the four-track diamond where the BNSF and Union Pacific mainlines intersect about 80 miles west of Chicago. Dedicated in 1998, the park turned a historic junction into a destination for train enthusiasts from around the world.
Two Historic Mainlines
The view captures Union Pacific freights on the former Chicago & North Western line toward Omaha and BNSF freights on the former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy line bound for the Twin Cities, a junction layered with more than a century of railroading.
An Around-the-Clock Parade
With roughly 80 to 100 trains passing daily, the diamond rarely sits quiet. Long intermodal stacks, mixed-freight manifests, and unit trains thread the crossing in steady succession, making it one of the most rewarding spots in the country to watch heavy rail traffic.
The Park Setting
An elevated viewing pavilion, a preserved Whitcomb locomotive on display, and landscaped grounds frame the scene, giving the camera a clean, open vantage over the rails and the small-town surroundings of Rochelle, Illinois.
