Pikes Peak Summit Overlook

America's Mountain

Rising to 14,115 feet above the Colorado plains, Pikes Peak is one of the most storied summits in the American West. Its vast, unbroken horizon inspired the lyrics of "America the Beautiful," and the peak has drawn travelers to its crown for generations.

The Summit Visitor Center

The camera looks out from the boardwalk of the Summit Visitor Center, a modern high-altitude complex built to withstand the mountain's extreme conditions. Visitors linger along the railed overlook, taking in thin mountain air and views that stretch for dozens of miles in every direction.

Reaching the Top

Two legendary routes converge here: the Pikes Peak Highway, a paved switchback road climbing from Cascade, and the historic Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest cog railway in North America. Hikers who complete the demanding Barr Trail from Manitou Springs also finish their climb at this very overlook.

A Front Range Panorama

From the summit, the view sweeps across the Front Range toward Colorado Springs and the endless plains of eastern Colorado. On the clearest days, the vista extends well beyond the horizon, a reminder of why this fourteener remains one of Colorado's most visited peaks.
