Phase 2 Seal Rehabilitation Pools
OnlineThis overhead view looks down on a Phase 2 recovery enclosure at WEC Lauwersoog, where common seals such as Ran, Sjakie and Yokozuna continue their rehabilitation after leaving intensive care. A Window into Seal Rehabilitation
This overhead camera streams live from a Phase 2 recovery enclosure at WEC Lauwersoog, a satellite site of the Seal Centre Pieterburen Foundation on the Dutch Wadden coast. Seals here have moved past intensive medical care and are gaining strength and confidence in the water.
Two Connected Pools
The wide-angle view spans two elongated pools joined by a central walkway, where caretakers can observe and interact with the seals from above. Individual animals such as Ran, Sjakie, Yokozuna, Matcha and Bonsai spend this stage of recovery learning to swim, dive and socialize before advancing further.
A Return to the Wadden Sea
Stichting Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen has cared for injured, orphaned and sick seals along the Dutch coast for decades, with every healthy animal ultimately released into the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage wetland. Public donations fund the seal guards and veterinary care that make each recovery possible.
