The jetties of Packery Channel
The camera looks out over the Packery Channel jetties, the long rock breakwaters that guard the dredged pass linking the Laguna Madre with the open Gulf of Mexico. The jetty runs out from the beach into the breakers, where waves wash over its weathered stones and boats come and go through the channel.
Surf and fishing on North Padre Island
Gulf swells make this stretch one of the best-known surf breaks around Corpus Christi, popular with surfers, kiteboarders and bodyboarders. The jetties are just as popular with anglers, who cast for redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead and pompano, and dolphins are a regular sight in the channel.
A wide view of the Texas Gulf Coast
In the foreground a broad sandy beach meets the white water of the shore break, while the horizon is lined with the offshore platforms of the Gulf. The beach belongs to North Padre Island, the northern end of the long barrier island that stretches south along the Texas coast.
