This camera looks out over the open North Sea from the beachfront of Zandvoort aan Zee. The broad, gently shelving beach is a hallmark of the Dutch coast, with timber groynes reaching into the surf to hold the sand in place against the tides.

A Storied Seaside Resort

Zandvoort sits roughly 25 kilometres west of Amsterdam and has drawn beachgoers for well over a century. Its long promenade, or boulevard, is lined with beach clubs, cafés and the lampposts and rental chairs visible along the shore.

Home of the Dutch Grand Prix

Beyond the dunes lies the Circuit Zandvoort, host of the Dutch Grand Prix, which brings the Formula 1 calendar to this stretch of coast and fills the town each racing season.

Waves, Wind and Wide Horizons

Exposed to the prevailing westerlies, the sea here is rarely still — a constant procession of swell and whitecaps that makes the beach popular with walkers, surfers and kitesurfers alike.
